Hi beauties, hope you guys are having a great start to the week! It's important to have key pieces each season, meaning having 1 or 2 pieces that you can style in a few different ways. That way you don't need to buy multiple pieces with the same cut, while still being able to pull off multiple outfits and saving some money at the same time. In this post I'll be using a cold shoulder top as a statement piece example, all tips mentioned in this post can be applied to most other statement pieces.
Before I get into the tips, I just wanted to mentioned that the cold shoulder top I'm wearing here is one that I DIY'ed. Upcycling and DIY-ing is one of the things I enjoy doing during my free time. Plus, what's better than transforming an old piece to a trendy statement piece?! By the way, if you're interested in learning how to turn a regular dress shirt into a cold shoulder top, let me know in the comments down below. I'd be more than happy to do blog post sharing how you can DIY one yourself!
Whether you're upcycling or purchasing a statement piece,
here are a few TIPS for choosing a piece that you can style in a few different ways:
- Neutral Shade - Choose shades that are not on the colour wheel including white, black and grey. These shades will most likely pair well with other pieces you wear.
- Multi-functional - Think about if you can pair this specific piece with both a skirt and a pair of jeans. Basically see if you can put at least 3 outfits together with this 1 single item before purchasing it.
This cold shoulder top is by far one of my favourite piece I've ever DIY'ed. Here, I've created a look that's perfect for brunch and hanging out around the city during the day. The ripped denim shorts help tone down the dressiness of the top, giving the look a more casual/streetwear vibe. I accessorized the look with a bright red crossbody bag, adding a fun vibe to it. And I finished the look off with a chic pair of flats.
I hope my tips will come in handy for you next time you go shopping, especially if you're shopping for a few trendy pieces for the season.
