Oversized white button down is a staple in my closet and a piece that I think every women should have in theirs. If you can't find an oversized button down in your local retail store and prefer not to purchase one online, you can always check out the men's section or borrow your boyfriend's or husband's. I actually find men's button downs fit better as an oversized shirt for us.
White button downs are such a versatile piece - you can dress it up or down and style it in so many different ways! Apart from styling it casually with jeans or leggings, below are 2 different ways I've been styling it recently.
Off The Shoulders Button Down
An oversized button down generally gives out this casual chic vibe. By creating an off the shoulder look with it, it transforms that vibe into a feminine one. In order for a button down to be worn off the shoulders, an oversized button down is required. You can leave the collars as is or fold them inwards. I chose to fold them inwards because I like how it gives out this simple and clean look.
To create this look:
#1 Fold collars inwards
#2 Pull sleeves off the shoulders
#3 Button up the shirt to the highest button
as possible, so that the shirt holds in place
#4 Fold up the sleeves (they'd need to be folded much more than
usual as they're pulled off the shoulders)
To make this a dressy chic look, I pair it with a leather pencil skirt. This look is perfect for a date night. You can also pair it with a denim skirt, pants or even leggings! By pairing the top with a less dressy bottom, you can wear the look to brunch or just to hang out with the girls!
Dressy Pants Pairing
Since an oversized button down naturally gives out a casual chic vibe. This makes it a perfect piece to balance out the dressiness of an outfit, while keeping it stylish. You don't always have to wear a fitted silk blouse to match a pair of dress pants or wide legged pants. For as long as your pants are hip hugging, an oversized button down would never make your outfit look too casual or messy.
Here, I'm wearing the button down as is, however I tucked it all in to give it a clean look. I styled the button down with a pair of vertical striped pants. Just a side note, vertical stripes are one of this season's top trends and if you're not comfortable in wearing vertical stripes from top to bottom (as seen on runways) - pairing it with a plain top or button would be a great way to style them! Back to topic, I finished off the look by simply throwing a trench coat over my shoulders, just to give more depth to this outfit. And did I mention, trench coats are super trendy this season as well!
Do you guys have an oversized button down in your closet? How do you style yours?
Thank you so much for dropping by and reading! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
P.S. So glad the weather in Toronto is finally warmer now!
